In BrE "it is important that he goes" is perfectly OK.

"It is important that he goes đồ sộ school."

"It is important that he go" - I am hesitant đồ sộ use it but I have heard it. Slightly archaic I believe. I wish I could give an example. Perhaps someone else can.

Hello Thomas

1. It is important that he go đồ sộ university.

— This version uses the present subjunctive. The present subjunctive in this construction was once less usual in British than vãn in American English; but in the last twenty years or sánh, it has become more common (perhaps because of the increasing daily tương tác by tin nhắn, etc. between Americans and British speakers). It seems the most formal version: I would be surprised if a thành viên of my family said it đồ sộ u, but less sánh if a headmaster said it about a pupil.

2.

It is important that he went đồ sộ university.

— This is different from the other versions: it means it is important now that he went đồ sộ university in the past. An interviewer might say this, when discussing a candidate for a job.

3. It is important that he goes đồ sộ university.

— This can be an everyday equivalent of #1, in BrE, with an indicative verb instead of a subjunctive, in which case it relates đồ sộ a hypothetical future; or it can be an ordinary indicative, in which case it means "It is important that he is currently going đồ sộ university".

It is important that he should go đồ sộ university.

— This is another version of #1; it was once much more common in BrE than vãn the #1 sườn, but has become less common as the #1 sườn has gained ground. It is moderately formal; I wouldn't be very surprised if a thành viên of my family said it đồ sộ u.

5. It is important for him đồ sộ go đồ sộ university.

This too is ambiguous: it can mean

5a. It is important | for him đồ sộ go đồ sộ university. (i.e. his going đồ sộ university is important)

or

5b. It is important for him | đồ sộ go đồ sộ university. (i.e. he thinks it is important đồ sộ go đồ sộ university).

Moreover, 5a can either be a less formal version of #1, which relates đồ sộ a hypothetical future; or it can have a present meaning, i.e. "his current going đồ sộ university is important".

(I think that's probably all I have đồ sộ say about "it is important that", no doubt đồ sộ the relief of other members.)

Have a good evening!

MrP

Edit: When I say "The present subjunctive in this construction was once less usual in British than vãn in American English", I mean "it was less usual in the early đồ sộ mid 20th century". In pre-19th century English, the present subjunctive was much more common.
